Abdellatif Jouahri Ranked Once Again Among the World's Best Central Bank Governors

Mr. Jouahri has been awarded an "A" rating by the New York-based magazine in its annual report published by Global Finance since 1994, according to a statement from the publication. Bank Al-Maghrib is the only central bank in the Arab world to receive an "A" rating. The "Central Banker Report Cards" evaluates the governors of central banks from 101 countries, territories, and key regions, including the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Central Bank of Central African States, and the Central Bank of West African States. According to the statement, the report honors central bank governors “who have not only delivered results but have done so with independence, discipline, and strategic foresight.” It notes that most central bankers have spent recent years combating inflation using their most effective tool: higher interest rates, even though their mandates may vary from one country to another. With inflation now receding, the results of these difficult decisions are beginning to emerge. The ratings in the report are graded on a scale from "A" to "F" and take into account performance in managing inflation, achieving economic growth targets, maintaining monetary stability, and managing interest rates. An "A" represents excellent performance, while an "F" indicates a significant failure, according to the magazine. Other central bankers who received an "A" rating include Rosanna Costa (Chile), Roger Madrigal Lopez (Costa Rica), Perry Warjiyo (Indonesia), Richard Byles (Jamaica), Kamau Thugge (Kenya), Carlos Carvallo Spalding (Paraguay), Julio Velarde Flores (Peru), and Nandalal Weerasinghe (Sri Lanka).
