Current Status of Dams
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Equipment and Water's Maa Dialna platform, five dams—Oued El Makhazine, Charif Al Idrissi, Ibn Battouta, Chefchaouen, and Nakhla—are currently operating at full capacity.
The total water reserves across the primary dams managed by the agency stand at approximately 1.23 billion cubic meters, resulting in an overall filling rate of 64.2%.
Highlights of Individual Dams
Oued El Makhazine, located in the Larache province and recognized as the largest hydraulic structure in the region, boasts reserves of 672.8 million cubic meters.
In contrast, the Dar Khrofa dam has a filling rate of only 26%, with reserves totaling 127.4 million cubic meters.
In the Tanger-Assilah prefecture, the 9 Avril dam holds 73.8 million cubic meters, reflecting a filling rate of 24%. Meanwhile, the Ibn Battouta dam has reached full capacity with 29.1 million cubic meters stored.
The Moulay El Hassan Ben El Mahdi dam in Fahs-Anjra province shows a filling rate of 53%, with reserves of 12.6 million cubic meters, while the Tanger Méditerranée dam reports a filling rate of 70%, equivalent to 15.5 million cubic meters.
Regional Variations in Water Levels
In Tétouan province, the Charif Al Idrissi dam has reserves of 121.65 million cubic meters, achieving a full capacity of 100%. Conversely, the El Khroub dam has 124.5 million cubic meters, representing a filling rate of 66%.
Both the Nakhla and Chefchaouen dams also report full capacity, with reserves of 4.21 million cubic meters and 12.24 million cubic meters, respectively.
In the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture, the Smir dam shows a filling rate of 77%, with reserves of 30 million cubic meters.
However, the situation is less favorable in Al Hoceima province, where the Abdelkarim El Khattabi dam has only 2.3 million cubic meters (19%), and the Joumoua dam holds a mere 0.7 million cubic meters, translating to a filling rate of 13%.
National Overview of Water Reserves
On a national scale, the total water reserves across the Kingdom's dams have surpassed 8.017 billion cubic meters, resulting in an overall filling rate of approximately 47.8%. This indicates a gradual improvement in water reserves, although regional disparities remain evident.
