The Casablanca Stock Exchange opened lower on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a 1% decline attributed to low trading volumes. This downturn coincided with another night of protests in various cities across the Kingdom, marked by acts of vandalism and unrest.
In cities such as Tiznit, Inzegane, Aït Amira, Oujda, and Témara, gatherings escalated into clashes, involving stone-throwing, damage to public property, and the burning of police vehicles. In Aït Amira, a bank branch was also targeted. In Oujda, a protester sustained serious injuries.
In Rabat, several dozen young individuals were arrested for unauthorized demonstrations. Some were quickly released, while others remain in custody. The government praised the "balanced response" of law enforcement and expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue.
The ruling majority issued a statement affirming that they are "listening" to social demands and are "ready to respond positively and responsibly." On Tuesday, after experiencing a drop of up to 3% in the early session, the MASI began to recover, supported by institutional flows in anticipation of the quarterly close. The session's low, around 18,450 points, serves as a graphical support level for the index, while resistance is noted at 19,500 points.
