Marsa Maroc and CMA CGM Finalize Agreement for the Operation of the Nador West Med Container Terminal

Following the signing of a comprehensive agreement between the Tanger Med Group and CMA CGM on October 28, 2024, Marsa Maroc and CMA Terminals have announced a partnership agreement. This agreement allows CMA Terminals to enter the capital of the subsidiary responsible for the concession of the Nador West Med Container Terminal, a major Moroccan port located in the Mediterranean. Upon finalization of this agreement, pending approval from the relevant authorities, Marsa Maroc will hold 51% of the capital and voting rights of the concession company, while CMA Terminals will own 49%. The terminal is set to become operational gradually starting in 2027, featuring 900 linear meters of quay, a depth of 18 meters, and 37.5 hectares of land. Spanning an area of 60 hectares, the terminal will ultimately be equipped with 8 quay cranes (STS) and will have the capacity to handle up to 1.8 million TEUs annually. This strategic partnership between two leading players in the port and maritime sector will leverage CMA CGM's global network, which can generate significant traffic volumes, alongside the operational expertise and local presence of Marsa Maroc. The alliance aims to develop a state-of-the-art terminal at Nador West Med that meets the highest international standards of performance and connectivity. It will also contribute to establishing the port as a major transshipment hub in the Mediterranean and enhance Morocco's logistical attractiveness on major global maritime routes. Ideally located near the Strait of Gibraltar, in the Bay of Betoya at the mouth of the Kert River, the Nador West Med port benefits from significant geographical advantages that complement the terminals operated by the CMA CGM Group in the western Mediterranean.
