Green Hydrogen Initiatives: Six Collaborations Selected for Seven Projects in Southern Regions

Overview of Green Hydrogen Projects
The newly selected projects are set to achieve an installed capacity of approximately 20 gigawatts of renewable energy, facilitating the production of over 800,000 tons of green hydrogen derivatives, primarily for industrial use.
Strategic Locations and Preparedness
All selected initiatives are situated across three provinces in the South, identified as regions with significant solar and wind resource potential.
The preparatory phase for the first project has been completed on schedule, paving the way for advanced studies. This development signifies a transition from mere intentions to a structured operational framework within the sector.
Institutional Framework and Risk Management
In conjunction with the project launches, authorities have established a dedicated institutional framework to oversee the sector's development and manage associated risks.
This framework includes a steering committee and an investment committee tasked with coordinating national offerings for investors, with MASEN serving as the focal point.
Additionally, a specialized technical commission has been formed, featuring subcommittees focused on energy infrastructure, gas logistics, and land management.
Contract Monitoring and Sector Growth
A specific mechanism for monitoring land reservation contracts has been implemented to secure projects from the initial phases.
The overarching goal is to facilitate a gradual scaling of the sector while distributing risks among public and private stakeholders.
Key Projects and Collaborations
Several significant projects are already underway within this framework, including one led by the OCP Group, which aims for a production capacity of one million tons of ammonia, with plans to increase this to three million tons by 2032.
Notably, Taqa Morocco is among the selected groups, collaborating with the Spanish energy company Cepsa. This partnership focuses on the production of green ammonia and industrial fuels for both local and export markets.
