Inflationary Trends in February

In February, inflation within the Eurozone experienced a notable uptick, reaching 1.9%. This increase was primarily fueled by heightened inflation in the services sector, which rose to 3.4%, up from 3.2% in the previous month.

Additionally, the inflation rate for industrial goods, excluding energy, climbed to 0.7%, compared to 0.4% in January.

Energy Prices and Food Inflation

While energy prices continued their downward trajectory, the rate of decline slowed to 3.2%, down from 4.0% in January. In contrast, inflation for food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco remained stable at 2.6%.

Core Inflation Insights

Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco, rebounded to 2.4%, recovering from a four-year low of 2.2% recorded in January.

Consumer Price Index Developments

Among the major economies in the Eurozone, the harmonized consumer price index (HICP) showed varied trends. France saw an acceleration in inflation to 1.1%, up from 0.4%, while Spain's inflation increased slightly to 2.5% from 2.4%. Italy also experienced a rise, with inflation moving to 1.6% from 1.0%.

Conversely, Germany reported a slight deceleration in inflation, with the rate decreasing to 2.0% from 2.1%.
