EBRD's Commitment to Nador West Med

An agreement has been formalized between Haytham Eissa, Director of the EBRD and Head of Morocco, and Mohamed Jamal Benjelloun, General Director of Nador West Med. This partnership will facilitate the financing of a Technical Cooperation (TC) program designed to assist Nador West Med as it prepares for the operational phase of the industrial-port complex.

This program is intended to complement the €120 million funding previously allocated by the EBRD to Nador West Med in 2025. Its primary objectives include the digitalization of management and operational processes, the integration of resilient infrastructure, and the implementation of sustainable energy solutions within the development area.

Enhancing Digitalization and Infrastructure

A key focus of the technical cooperation support will be the acceleration of digitalization at BILZ through the development and adaptation of a fully automated single-window system. This system aims to provide investors with a streamlined and integrated experience, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of the economic zone for both national and international investors.

Additionally, a dedicated mission will assist in the creation of a sustainable infrastructure plan. This plan will ensure that resilient infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions are integrated from the planning phase, thereby guaranteeing long-term climate resilience for the area.

Strengthening Human Capital

Recognizing the necessity of pairing infrastructure investments with human capital development, the TC program will also provide targeted support for the development and enhancement of technical, managerial, and transversal skills among NWM personnel. This initiative is crucial for the successful launch and optimal operation of the port complex and adjacent activity zones.

Furthermore, the program aims to foster a culture of continuous performance improvement, both collectively and individually, to ensure the project's success, competitiveness, and sustainability.

EBRD's Vision for Regional Development

Haytham Eissa emphasized that this technical cooperation program exemplifies the EBRD's commitment to supporting Morocco's regional development and enhancing its economic competitiveness. He stated, 'By combining digital innovation, sustainable infrastructure planning, and skills development, we aim to position the NWM complex as a leading industrial and logistics hub.'

Eissa further noted that through this financial and technical partnership, the EBRD is facilitating the emergence of NWM as a catalyst for foreign direct investment, industrial competitiveness, and job creation, while ensuring that the project's benefits extend to local communities and contribute to inclusive regional growth.

EBRD's Investment Footprint in Morocco

As a founding member of the EBRD, Morocco has been an operational country since 2012. To date, the EBRD has invested nearly €6 billion in Morocco across 125 projects.
